Ephesians 3:14-19 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,

That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith;

Tthat ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth,
and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge,
that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Day 16—Yielding to the Mystery of God’s Will, while Not Seeing His Whole Plan

Through Christ Jesus, God is drawing us unto Himself for the fulfillment of His Own eternal will. This is one of those things we have to let our hearts reach for. The fullness of what He is doing is beyond the grasp of our understanding. Paul calls it a mystery. Let’s see what he goes on to say in the Ephesians Statement that we are taking on slowly, one verse at a time, day by day.

As we move on through the opening of Ephesians, one verse at a time, let us remember that each part we are seeing connects with what we saw the day before, and with what comes after. Here, right in the middle of the opening sentence, we have verse Ephesians 1:9. Having made known unto us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He hath purposed in Himself… Recalling what we saw yesterday, we see that it is out of God’s great wisdom and intelligence that He is making known to us what He desires to accomplish through us.

There are three things for us to note. First—what He determines for us is according to His good pleasure. Second—we cannot fathom by ourselves what God’s overall will is for us. Much yet remains a mystery. Third—He has already determined, in Himself, what His will is for us. While the overall plan remains a mystery to us, we are learning to trust His wisdom and prudence as He brings forth what is right in each one of us.

FATHER, too many times when I was not very happy about who You ordained for me. It was mostly because I was afraid. Today, I renounce this attitude. Something else that’s been hard for me is trying to understand how You can ever make full use of me. To myself I seem to be a bumbler, not very smart, and too critical of everything around me. I’m ready to stop thinking this way. Please cleanse my mind and give me a way of thinking that will be useful in Your Kingdom.
